Slow Down and Savor your food!

If it takes you less than a few minutes to devour your meal, then it's time for you to slow down. When you eat fast, you're not giving enough time for the brain to process that you're no longer hungry and you end up eating more than your body needs. Enjoy every bite, savor your food.

If eating slowly is something that you struggle with, make sure to count how many times you chew. Chew each bite of food for about 30- 35 times. Most of us don't even chew 10 times before swallowing. Chewing is the first step of the digestive system and is crucial to weight loss. By chewing slowly, you will feel satisfied and you won't feel the need to go for seconds and your weight loss will definitely be more successful!

Drink More Water!

Challenge yourself to reduce the consumption of unhealthy beverages, including diet soda. Drinking more water will help your system remove waste and fat more efficiently. Be sure you have water handy at all times by keeping a bottle of water with you when you're working, traveling, exercising, etc. If you get bored with plain water, add a slice of lemon or lime for a touch of flavor.

Say Goodbye to Late-night Snacks!

According to a new study pusblished in the International Journal of Obesity, eating late-night snacks may contribute to weight gain more than if the same snacks were eaten during the day.

"Simply modifying the time of feeding alone can greatly affect body weight," said the researchers of this study.

The study was conducted by the Northwestern University. They found that eating at irregular times influences weight gain. Over a period of six weeks, two groups of mice were fed. Mice fed during the day (when they normally would be sleeping) gained more weight than mice fed at night.

The finding might help people trying to lose weight, the researchers said. It's time for you to change the time of meals by cutting back on the late-night snacks and eating more during the day.

Exericising 30 minutes a day? Try 50!

If you think 30 minutes of exercise is enough, you better think 50! According to an updated guidelines issued by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), greater amounts of physical activity is necessary for people that want to lose and maintain their weight.

In the past, ACSM used to recommend a minimum of 150 minutes per week for the obese and overweight individuals to improve their health. However, 200 to 300 minutes per week of exercise is recommended for long-term weight loss.

"Greater amounts of weekly physical activity--in the order of 250 minutes or more per week-- have been associated with 'significant' weight loss," ACSM said.
